Two Addicts Dead After A Bad Batch ‘Cooks Them From The Inside’

Killer Synthetic Drugs On The Rise

It amazes me sometimes just how insidious and, powerful the disease of addiction truly is. How many times have I just trusted that a drug was safe to use when I copped it from a complete stranger?

Once when I was in my early teens and, hanging out with some older addicts there was a new drug I was introduced to. It was called “Crystal T”. These older kids told me that it was THC (Tetra Hydra Cannabinol), the active ingredient in Marijuana that had been removed and, ‘crystalized’. We the snorted it.

Turns out that wasn’t really the case. It was PCP (horse tranquilizers) that had been crushed and, we were snorting. I also have to admit that in all of my using that was one of my favorite highs. I’m really lucky not to be dead or, to have suffered permanent damage. Although, we could probably argue that I am permanently damaged.

These two men from Australia were not nearly as lucky as me. Both addicts were believed to have used Ice prior to their episodes, but something was added to the ice that first sent them into full blown violent psychotic episodes then, caused there core body temperatures to rise to lethal levels.

One guy was tackled while running through traffic. He was taken to the hospital where his temperature rose above 107 degrees fahrenheit. That was enough to send him into a coma and, he passed away shortly after that. I’ve had a lot of good friends who got clean and sober then relapsed. A couple of those friends died as a result of a bad batch but, this is probably the worse way to overdoes that I’ve ever heard of.

I picked up this story from the Sydney Morning Herald and you can see some quotes from that story below.

Both men died on Thursday following separate long and violent psychotic episodes during which their core temperatures rose to fatal levels, one to more than 42 degrees.

“I know it’s the old message, but this really shows that people have absolutely no idea what they are taking; and it could well be killing them,” one senior detective told Fairfax Media.

Port Stephens detectives thought they were investigating a homicide after the body of a 21-year-old man was found inside a Raymond Terrace home with significant cuts and bruises to his body.

An investigation found he had been in a psychosis, possibly for several days, where he was seen to jump around violently in a baby bath in an effort to cool himself down.

He is believed to have taken ecstasy the weekend before, and ice in the days leading up to the death.
